The first hormone described is a gut hormone, Secretin (1902). The latest hormone discovered is also a gut hormone, Insulin-Like Peptide 5.
Gut physiology, including production and secretion of gut hormones, changes with obesity. Drugs derived from gut hormones are increasingly used to treat obesity.
All forms of diabetes can be harmful to the gut. But, the gut offers solutions. Drugs based on gut hormones are now first line treatments for type 2 diabetes mellitus.
We have worked at the basic and preclinical research and clinical trial levels in obesity and diabetes from within endocrinology and gastroenterology for over four decades. These communities know us well. We've been publishing, patenting, attending congresses and developing medical products the entire time. DLW Bioanalytics® is new as of 2025 and it is our latest experiment. Innovation happens at the small and custom scale. This is our niche. We collaborate with academia as well as clinical chemistry and pharmaceutical industries. This works synergistically, as these entities have difficulty finding partners for small, custom projects, whereas DLW Bioanalytics® needs these interactions to grow our knowledgebase for our own innovations.
